Comment of Digital Literacy and mobile learning

Universidad Latina
Sede: Guapiles
Teacher: Msc. Miguel A.Granados Umaña
Student: Juan Carlos Morales Zúñiga.
Quiz 2
Digital Literacy and mobile learning

In my opinion all the topics was interesting but the Digital Literacy and mobile learnig, because the use technology now a days is move fast in this constantly world of change also when we use some technological toils such as tablet or mobil in the same time is growing our knowledge and the interest in many literacy resources that can helping in the lessons plans we made as  english teachers.

I really enjoy both topics, but main one is really call my attention was the use of mobile in the learning process, because maybe that type of technology is close to every person. People is usually depending more using their mobile like a laptop or Pc. And how we can increase the interest in Digital literacy for many uses.

Well my first reaction with this topic was, I remenber how many times teachers call the attention to the students because it is prohibited the use of cell phones or mobile tecnology in class room and how many students from this century see normal live together with this tecnology and take advantage of that.

Other thing to take in count is about I believed that is a tool very interesting and modern because like the reading said we use the mobile for every single thing like to put the alarm to wake uo in the morning, put the calculator or make a picture or selfie through the mobile and upload in the social networks.
Is great to know how students can develop their knowledge and language skills in english throught the technology in class, for example develop a proyect in the englis lessons in wich the students need to download information, pictures or videos to undesrtand better the activity.

Many people are familiarized with the use of technology for many thinks including the interaction with more people, for that reazon is bacause the mobile can be apply in the english lessons because the use is not only for search information of a topic at the same time we can use like a communication toil bettween the teacher a students and also can consider like a modern way to increase our knowledge.

Aurasma App. Porfolio

Hello   everybody!

Here there  is my comment about the explanation on digital tools by Oleana Bilozerova.

Even though she created a video that was quite long and little catchy, in my opinion, I truly believe it was a great idea to share all the websites, apps and other technological tools that she has used and that might be helpful for other teachers like us. We all know that the Internet is a whole world with a lot of sources and plenty of material about any topic we want to find. For this reason, it can become difficult to find the best websites and tools to our students needs. What I liked the most about her presentation is that she made sure to include tools to enhance all learners' skills and she showed a great variety of resources. Out of those resources she mentioned, there are some that I particularly find them quite useful for my class; these are the professional use we can give to Twitter to make students interact and chat using relia, the vialogues for encouraging learners to speak and upload their performance, the quizzes generators that teachers can create and students can take by their own too and the websites to improve pronunciation, which I think is one of the hardest aspects to teach students. Then, I think all of them can be of great help for both teachers and learners. Finally, I just would like to paraphrase the meaning this speaker gave to the word technology because I strongly agree with it. She said technology meant the advancement, methods and tool we, as teachers, use to solve problems or achieve a goal, so she emphasized the fact that any kind of tool we use should always depend on what we want to accomplish with our students. Therefore, we should always take this into account to always try to enhance students' learning.

Digital tools for language teaching and learning in adult education, Olena Bilozerova

During one of our classes our teacher showed us a video about "Digital tools for language teaching and learning in adult education", Presented by Olena Bilozerova.
"She is Managing Director of DomSpain Consulting SL. Co-founder of Association Open Europe. She has a Degree in Modern Languages and Education. Professor of Languages for Special Purposes, Presentation Skills, Intercultural Studies  at adult education institutions and HEIs of different countries.

Translator of art books about monuments of Catalonia and Spain into Russian and English. Project Coordinator with an extensive experience in national and international projects. Working experience in multidisciplinary teams in different countries and socio-cultural environments." http://dlearn.eu/team/olena-bilozerova/ .
There are more training availablehttp://dlearn.eu/training/

In my opinion the use of technology it is part of our daily life activities and as teachers we have to be able to take our times searching for the best tools and apps in order for us to include the ones that are suitable for our students level and content. We have to use these apps first and then invite our students to use them too. I found interesting on the video "The Pencil Metaphor".

I thought about my own case. What part of the pencil am I? I really like to use and learn about technology myself but to take it to the classroom it is quite a challenge. During the video she showed many web sites, apps and tools that can be part of our work as teachers. I consider that an effort for us, as teachers, to know and be in sharp about the use of technology in our classroom.
She also showed a chart about "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teachers Who Use Technology". I would like to share them with you ( all teachers who seek for information on the Web ) and if you have all these habits that means you are working hard to make your students love English ( or other languages) and instead of being afraid about technology you have the courage to try new things. I am trying to do that also.

Other topics that are mentioned during the video are:
Sharing Tools for teachers and students. To share face to face is a normal behavior and action we do every day but to share with the whole world (virtually) can be scary at the beginning if you put your mind into it. Can a simple post, picture or video be seen by the whole world? Well, it can take a while. Few days ago “Obama's anti-racism tweet after Charlottesville is most liked ever on Twitter ( according to the www.theguardian.com). More than 3 million people have endorsed the tweet, which quoted Nelson Mandela, after far-right rally in which woman was killed”, explained: Claire Phipps.  There is a connectivity power through these tools people use to share anything but in some moments what we share can reach a lot of people around the world. We are dealing with information from the people who is living it at the same moment. An instantaneous sea of pictures, videos, ideas. As teachers we can use tools like Twitter, Blogger and Instagram to share. Someone in somewhere might read my ideas or words and hopefully, can learn something new and share it! That is awesome!

Challenge or Learning. Many of the tools and ideas to work in the classroom have to be tested and the teacher has to take the time to learn, investigate and use himself the apps or websites. This responsibility of learning before bringing some idea to the classroom is a challenge. In Costa Rica many teachers prefer to have all the material to be given word by word. Teachers like to use and evaluate following the same structures as 10 or 20 years ago. Just the last year there was a change about the way to teach English. We have to be ready as teachers to learn more about these tools and option to accelerate the learning process and the accuracy of it.

All the information was explained by Olena Bilozerova.
This is my own opinion about the video and the ideas she shared.

Aurasma App. Is the Matrix is real? by Arturo Mora

Is the Matrix real? Well, maybe not yet as Neo faced it.However, we are dealing with impressive changes about the way the use of technology affects how do we see and learn about the world around us. A great example of that is Aurasma. From the Internet I found that:

"What is Aurasma? Aurasma is an Augmented Reality site which allows you to see and interact with the world in a new way. With Aurasma, every image, object and even place can have its own aura. Auras can be as simple as a video and a link to a web page or as complex as a lifelike 3D animation."

But to really understand it you have to try it by yourself. Visit this site: https://studio.aurasma.com/register

When the group in charge of showing us about this application we had to try it. Here are some of the examples I could do.

You will enjoy this Augmented Reality .
As teachers we can use it in our classes. If we have all the available resources. I think it is a brave step to learn about new tools and apps to teach. That means we care about our profession. Just we have to test these kind of apps and let decide if they are useful for our students and for us.
If you like try Aurasma in your classroom and give us your comment about your own experience.

Free Software for English Teacher. ( Free as in Freedom). Final Research

Free Software and Free Society.

Can be the choice of software and apps part of the Society we are creating?

To start this topic we share this video from Mr. Robot (  MRROBOT is a psychological thriller that follows a young programmer who works as a cyber-security engineer by day and a vigilante hacker by night. When Elliot is in a session of therapy and he has to answer:

What Is It About Society That Disappoints You So Much?

Watch the Video ( turn on the subtitles )

Now, we would like to share our final research about which free software can help English teachers to improve student´s four skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
We really hope all the tools, news and documents we share on this blog can be useful to all the teachers and students who want to learn in this very fast world of information and connectivity.

My reaction towards Mrs. Olena’s Digital Tools in Language Acquisition webinar by David Corrales

Undoubtedly, Mrs. Olena Bilozenova’s extensive list of websites for language teaching and learning will take a while to try and find out which are more suitable for our specific activities, but in the end it will be worth the effort, I know.

However, I’d like to focus on two specific things she said. First, the pencil metaphor; I think I’ve met at least one of each type, and it’s really disappointing to know that some teachers (the eraser and the ferrule kind) actually reject change by giving all kind of excuses like: I’m an English teacher, not a computer engineer or there’s no furniture in my school, much less computers or if I give my students a computer and they break it, then I will have to cover the damage because as usual they don’t have money. But the worst case scenario is when these teachers don’t do anything for change and on top of that, they complain, criticize and underestimate the work of their peers. It’s a shame.

On the other hand, I consider myself being between the wood and the sharp ones. I mean, coping with computers and software is not that challenging, but finding the time to do so is. Just like preparing flashcards, posters and puppets was. Let’s be honest, making a puppet or typing an online quiz is time consuming. Time that many teachers don’t have or are not willing to give for different reasons (because they have a bunch of paperwork to do or just because they want to play with their children when they are home, both valid reasons). But when you are given the right type of motivation (like paying a few tens of thousands for a university course), then you miraculously find a way to do and somehow enjoy this sort of high-tech mediated activities in the classroom.

The second thing that called my attention about Olena’s speech and I quote: "We believe in the value of sharing, sharing in order to connect, multiply and enhance the potential of our members". This basically means that we are not alone. It’s not like we are going into uncharted territory. Others had made efforts, others are making efforts and others will make efforts for the benefit of all the cyber-community. So, let’s share the little we know with the world and take whatever is useful from the world to bring into our classrooms and be the change. Let’s get involved more, what do we have to lose? Instead, we have a lot to learn if we want to survive in this digitally-connected era we are part of. Learn from one another, even from our own mistakes. If we do so, we would eventually evolve; by learning, doing and growing together.
